Houndwood Kirk session regarded Robert's life of "some irregularity". His daughter Isabella was born some 2 years before his mariage to Isabella Ford, and he had not attended church. "Robert and his wife applied on 25th June 1896 for membership of the Houndwood congregation, the session declined to admit him simpliciter, but resolved to request him to appear and submit himself to the session. The session resolved at the same time to deal with the restoration of his wife. Robert seems to have been reluctant to make the requesite submission; for his admission to the congregation did not take place until 21 June 1900. By then he and Isabella Ford had a second son, George Ford Turner".
