Lived at the time of Charles 1st. (Charles 2nd) Owned Townend Hall in Arkendale. (Arkendale = Arkengarthdale) (Arkendale is near Reeth in parish of Grinton, in Yorkshire.) During the civil war (1648) he raised and supplied a body of men for the King's service. Joined forces with Marmaduke Langdale. Near Preston, on route to help the King he was captured by Cromwell's troops. He escaped, and hid in a cave in the wood (now known as Douglas Wood). Fled to Flanders. His estates were confiscated, and applications for their restitution were fruitless.

10/9/1640 Sir A. Douglas (Scot) crossed the Tees and plundered the house of Mr. Pudsey. Captured by Sir John Digby. Not sure if this is our Alexander. 211,305,347,348
