bullet  General Notes:

Bill Hurst (Scotsman friend of George,in later part of 1880s) thought that it was time that George was married, but there were no suitable girls about in Bowen. He knew of a suitable "lassie" in Brisbane and offered to introduce them. George went to Brisbane and Bill Hurst gave him " a knock down" to this lassie and they married.

The lassie (Christina Learmonth "Tini") was the eldest daughter of a boot maker. (George was also a boot maker) Upon their marriage they opened a boot shop in Bowen. They imported boots and shoes from Britain.

They named their eldest son James Hurst Turner after this Bill Hurst. The Hurst name has now been passed down 2 more generations in the Turner family.

Christina had come to Australia alone. Her parents later came to Australia, the year before the marriage to George Turner (see Dacca shipping record). They lived in Coorporoo when their youngest son was born, and apparently moved into the Laidlaw Parade house later (Tini's eldest son James built the house before he married - so about 20 years after Tini married.) 13,45
