George enjoyed fishing and cooking fish. He cooked fish at the pub regularly. He could also climb a coconut tree and delighted in demonstrating his ability at the pub.

• Occupation: Cement laundry factory: Townsville, , Queensland, Australia. This factory (Turner Tubs) went out of business when other materials became popular. He had employed Jim (his brother) when Jim was young, and Jim later started his own (competing) business in cement Tubs in Townsville, causing some contention between the two brothers.

• Occupation: Fisherman: Townsville, , Queensland, Australia. Bill says that George was a very successfl fisherman. George told of a very large Mackerel that jumped into his boat, pierced the bulkhead of his boat and stopped his engine, by knocking off the spark plugs off. He also injured his leg.
