bullet  General Notes:

"About 1864 the bushranging gang headed by Ben Hall held up the mail coach at a place called Big Rock on the top of Gunning Hill. After taking money and valuables the gang made tracks towards the Fish River Crossing. Approaching the river they over took three district residents, Dick Grosvenor, Joe Hallum, and Tom McConnville. They relieved Grosvenor of a watch and chain and a valuable saddle. Grosvenor challenged Gunn to put away his shooting irons and fight him for the watch, which he valued as a keepsake from his grandfather. Hall intervened and told Dunn to give the watch back to Grosvenor and observed that he was a game little chap." This watch is now in th epossession of a grandson. (The Fitzwaters p 73)

Lost heavily in the bank crashes of the 1890s, and never fully recovered financially. Lived later in Dulwich Hill, Sydney.
