Joined his relatives in Australia in 1867 having served with distinction in the army in India and the Crimea. Was appointed to the Clerk of Petty sessions in Taroom after his father vacated the position. Applied for, in 1886, and was granted permission to start a provisional school at Double Barrell, a railway siding 28 mils from Townsville. Arthur was the first teacher.

Was in Taroom to register the death of his father, 16th June 1862 ( RWG Douglas death certificate). Still there (district of Drayton) to register the marriage of Morton (his brother), 16th June 1866).

1864 to marry Rebecca - he is resident in Toowoomba.

1876 - death of Rosa - he is resident in Milton (see Rosa'a death certificate).
1878 the brands book list Aurther Edward Douglas resident at Brisbane.
