He had emigrated to Canada after the war and was not very close to much of his family. I believe he had a rather difficult time as a youth. His father, George Crow Fairbairn died when my father was 2 years old and his mother, Christina Maddock Putt remarried, but to a man who I believe liked the bottle quite a bit and who was quite abusive. 43
