  General Notes:

1881: James and wife Jennet with their first four children are living at Minto, Wellington North, Ontario with James' father Thomas who is a Farmer there. Thomas is widowed at that time.
James came to Canada at age 14 with his parents, lived in Scarboro Twp. for the first year, then near Streetsville until the family moved to Minto Twp. in 1864 - in 1872 he married Janet, daughter of George Weir and his wife May, nee Moffat (m. 28 Dec 1827 at Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire, Scot.) of Thamesford - James & Janet farmed lots 13 & 14, conc. 17, Minto Twp. - he was an elder in Westminster United Church, Mt. Forest for 26 years (formerly Presbyterian) - also served as Justice of the Peace - Harold Crow, their grandson, gave us their photo album with many pictures of James & Janet's siblings, nieces & nephews and the "paisley" brought from Scotland by the Weirs -he also gave us the seed picture (shadow box) that Janet Crow had made c.1880 of seeds from their farm - the Crow farms were near a settlement called "Drew" in Minto Twp., and neighbours called the local swimming hole "Crow's bridge"
