bullet  General Notes:

Major interest in "Majuba Station" which he managed with his brothers Ernest Alfred,Gerald Stapleton, and Archibald and their father Morton. His other brothers occupied "Belleview Station". ie Norman, Cedric, William Cyril and Ada (Buckland).

George performed one of the largest droves on record - he drove (maybe 6000) sheep in three herds (with three seperate teams of drovers and plant) from North Qld or the NT right through to Vic or South Australia. He was very famous for this trip - at age about 19 years.
(This is from WH Turner from memory of what he was told by George. George and Norma have looked for a record of this in the Stockman's hall of fame but found no record.)

George was in partnership with his brothers on Waterview station, when he married Bertha. His brothers were apparently not happy about his marriage to Bertha. When he left the property he took a number of sheep without permission since he thought he was owed. There was a major "stink" about this. He took the sheep to Ayr and fed them on cane tops, because there was drought on. The family left Prairie and moved to Ayr (about 1924-6 certainly before 1927 WHT), and then the Blue mountains. George then purchased an orchard of about 10 acres in Normanhurst, Sydney. Information Source: Violet and Georgie.

Georgie says that her father was very "flexible and sensitive" about his age, according to who was asking. Born around 1880? Georgie believes that her father had a first wife who died during the birth of her first child. The child died too. (This information appears on Violet's birth certificate). Owned a farm but never had any luck with cows. George used too cry when the fat lambs left for the butcher on trucks.

George had a lisp (WHT).

There was also a property at Toowoomba which had been owned by John Fairfax (of Sydney Morning Herald fame). John Fiarfax'x bowler hat was still on the top of the wardrobe. It had beautiful cedar furniture. This was sold and he moved to Tamworth.

Goerge died from heart attack. Took a turn in the house. He started to vomit and called Bree, He knew it was his heart. He was picked up by ambulance. He died on the way to hospital. 2,6,12,13,14
