12th October 1856 she appeared before the Stockbridge (Kirk) session to answer for "fornication with Peter Hay, a young man since dead, to whom she had brought forth a male child." The child born on 3rd September was Peter Hay Turner (1856 - 1903). She was absolved on 2 Nov 1856 form her suspension from church privelages. Less than 4.5 years later, however, she again had to appear - on 7 April 1861- before the Stockbridge session. This time she "confessed that she had been guilty of fornication with John McFadyen a young man not of our communion to whom she has borne a male child....This being her second offense of the same kind the session after dealing severely with her agreed that she be rebunked and suspended.. a month later, on 5th May "appeared Helen Turner..praying to be absolved and restored to the privelages of the church...Agreed". Later married Bruce. 52
