Microscope

This microscope belonged to George Turner

Henry Negretti (d. 1879) and Joseph Warren Zambra (d. 1877) were in partnership and sold a variety of scientific instruments. The company conducted business at different locations in London, beginning in 1850 and continuing to the end of the century.

With the microscope are two slide boxes and about 50 slides.

Most slides have an  N H Seward label. However as this one suggests, NH Seward may simply have been resellers of slides prepared by others - in this case J.B. Howard.

Note the date 13/12/1890

W. Watson & Sons.
William Watson began his optical business in London in 1837 and began manufacturing microscopes in the 1870s. The firm acquired Wheeler’s stock and business in 1884 and remained major suppliers of microscopical mounts until the late 1930s.

A slide prepared by Watson and Sons can also be seen at http://www.manchestermicroscopical.org.uk/slides/others1.htm
